Deadline Approaching for Winter Fuel Payment Recipients

Date:

An imminent deadline looms for individuals who are yet to receive their Winter Fuel Payment. The payment, valued up to £300, is disbursed by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to those above state pension age. Recipients earning over £35,000 annually must reimburse the payment through the tax system.

While most recipients typically receive their Winter Fuel Payment in November or December, those who have not received it by January 28, 2026, are advised to reach out to the Winter Fuel Payment Centre.

To contact the Winter Fuel Payment Centre, individuals can either call the helpline at 0800 731 0160 or send a letter via post to Winter Fuel Payment Centre, Mail Handling Site A, Wolverhampton, WV98 1LR.

If individuals have not received a letter or payment by January 28, 2026, they are urged to contact the Winter Fuel Payment Centre. Payments are automatically made to individuals born before September 22, 1959, who claimed specific benefits during the qualifying week of September 15 to 21, 2025.

For those who did not claim the mentioned benefits, a claim for the Winter Fuel Payment must be made by March 31, 2026, either by post or phone. Certain conditions, such as being in hospital for the entirety of the qualifying week or residing in a care home for an extended period, may affect eligibility for the payment.

In Scotland, the Winter Fuel Payment has been replaced by the Pension Age Winter Heating Payment, valued between £101.70 and £305.10.
