A woman has confessed to the killing of 10 dogs using a poison she was experimenting with after being accused of murdering an elderly man with a toxic bean stew.
Police chief Halisson Ideiao has labeled Ana Paula Veloso as a “psychopath” and a “serial killer” following allegations that she poisoned pensioner Neil Correa da Silva in Baixada Fluminense, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, with a toxic bean stew. Investigators suspect that Veloso, along with the victim’s daughter Michele Paiva da Silva, orchestrated the murder, with Paiva da Silva allegedly funding Veloso’s trip from Guarulhos to Rio to assist in the assassination.
Both Veloso and Paiva da Silva are currently in police custody and are implicated in three additional murders. Halisson stated, “She admits to killing 10 dogs with this poison, testing the method and timing. She was aware of the precise duration, dosage, and effects on those who consumed what she provided.” Authorities discovered terbufos, a pesticide slightly less toxic than lead, in Veloso’s residence.
The inquiry has also led Sao Paulo police to question Veloso’s twin sister, Roberta, with Halisson asserting, “She was actively involved in Neil’s demise, offering both moral and material support.” The victim’s daughter, Michele Paiva da Silva, a 42-year-old law student, was apprehended outside the Engenho Novo University in Rio. Neil, aged 65, passed away at the Adao Pereira Nunes Municipal Hospital on April 26, and his body has been exhumed for forensic evaluation to determine potential poisoning.
Authorities claim that the father and daughter had a strained relationship, while both Ana and Michele, described as friends, were present at the residence when he fell ill and was hospitalized. Subsequent examination of their phone communications revealed discussions about poisoning Mr. Correa da Silva.
Police are connecting the pensioner’s death to three other suspected poisonings in Guarulhos, which they believe were orchestrated by Veloso and Paiva da Silva. Halisson alleged, “Ana Paula poisoned four individuals, including Neil, at Michelle’s direction.” Additionally, Veloso drew police attention after claiming she was the target of a poisoned cake scheme, which investigators believe was an attempt to frame another person.
Halisson stated, “Ana Paula Veloso visited our station regarding an alleged poisoned cake incident within a college. She staged this purported poisoned cake scenario to incriminate a third party. Through our investigation, we determined that Ana Paula was not a victim in this case but rather a serial killer.”
