“Residents Return Home as Wildfire Evacuation Orders Downgraded”

Date:

Residents in the Quilpituk Creek wildfire zone in Central Okanagan received good news on Friday as evacuation orders were downgraded to alerts, allowing about 2,400 households to return home. The B.C. Wildfire Service reported that the fire was under control and not expected to spread further. Despite no structural damage, challenges such as ash, soot, and debris on properties and roads remain.

One resident, James Britton, shared his experience of returning home after multiple evacuations, noting the need for clean-up due to ash accumulation. While concerns about the frequency of wildfires arise, the community’s support and resilience were evident as neighbors assisted each other in various ways.

Meanwhile, in Summerland, evacuation orders were lifted for Peachland residents, with plans to gradually allow affected neighborhoods to return home. Authorities emphasized the importance of remaining prepared for potential evacuation alerts amid ongoing wildfire risks.

As some individuals reunite with their homes, the spirit of camaraderie and determination prevails, showcasing the community’s strength in overcoming challenges together.
