“Harvest Free Seeds Now! Gardening Tips for September”

Date:

With September approaching, many believe gardening season is ending, but according to gardening expert and BBC presenter Monty Don, this is the perfect time to harvest free seeds in your garden for future plant growth. Don suggests collecting these seeds by using brown paper envelopes, ensuring to label each envelope with the plant name and date, and storing them in a cool, dry place. After drying the seeds for about a week, they can be cleaned, sieved, and stored in sealed packets or a plastic tub in the fridge for long-term storage.

Additionally, Don recommends taking cuttings to propagate new plants identical to the parent plant without the need to purchase from a garden shop. This method is effective and can lead to successful plant propagation. September is also an opportune time for tasks like trimming hedges and repairing lawns damaged by summer drought. By sowing seeds over thin patches in the lawn and watering them, new grass growth can be encouraged in just a few days.
