UK Braces for 60-Hour Snowfall: WX Charts Warns

Date:

Britons have received a caution about the potential of enduring an extensive 60-hour period of snowfall affecting various regions as indicated by weather maps.

The upcoming drastic weather shift is anticipated to bring snow showers across the nation within a few days, as per weather forecasts. WX Charts, utilizing MetDesk data, has projected the likelihood of snowfall in the UK by December 17, less than two weeks away, just before the Christmas festivities.

According to the predictions, later on that day, snowfall is expected to blanket parts of Western Scotland, extending down towards North West England. The snowfall is foreseen to persist overnight and into the early hours of December 18, possibly affecting much of Northern England, including Lancashire and Yorkshire.

Furthermore, the forecast suggests that snow showers may also envelop central Wales, reaching as far south as Devon. By 6 a.m. on the same morning, the snowy conditions are anticipated to move northward towards southern Scotland.

The snow showers are predicted to continue into December 19, with regions of Scotland and North Yorkshire possibly encountering further snowfall.

Despite the outlook for a snowy December, the Met Office’s forecast contrasts with that of WX Charts. The Met Office’s extended forecast for December 11 – 20 anticipates rainy spells and gusty winds prevailing across the country.

The Met Office stated, “A continuation of a similar pattern to that seen through early December is anticipated, especially at first, as frontal systems from the Atlantic spread into and across the UK, interspersed with some temporary drier interludes.”

“While it will often be mild, later in the period there may be a transition for temperatures to return closer to average, with a slightly higher chance of some wintry hazards across northern parts of the UK, especially on high ground.”

With the possibility of snowfall this month, some individuals are already contemplating the chances of a White Christmas on December 25. The declaration of a White Christmas occurs if a single snowflake falls anywhere in the country during the 24 hours of December 25.

In the latest Christmas period forecast by the Met Office, covering December 21 to January 4, “changeable conditions” are expected nationwide. The prevalence of low-pressure systems suggests the likelihood of “showers or longer spells of rain, heavy at times, for much of the UK and some hill snow in the north.”
