Perrie Edwards subtly criticized her former friend and bandmate Jesy Nelson while speaking with Mollie King. The expectant singer, 32, discussed Katseye’s track Gabriela during an interview on Mollie’s Future Pop show.
Perrie confessed her admiration for the song and revealed that Little Mix was initially offered the opportunity to record it. However, the group couldn’t reach a unanimous decision on whether it suited their style.
In a sardonic tone, Perrie implied that Jesy was the one who vetoed the song. When Mollie suggested playing the track, Perrie enthusiastically mentioned that it was originally intended for Little Mix.
The surprised host responded, “You’re kidding,” to which Perrie continued, “I know, and I was obsessed with it, listening to the demo in the car constantly. I adored it.”
Mollie expressed how great the song would have been for the band, which Perrie agreed with, mentioning that all but one member wanted to record it.
When Mollie asked who turned down the song, Perrie sarcastically replied, “Yeah, well, one of us did. Not me, not Jade, not Leigh-Anne,” before laughing.
Despite their initial pass on the song, Perrie commended how well Little Mix performed it, adding that she was pleased with their interpretation and choreography.
Perrie recently became emotional at a concert after releasing her debut solo album, where she introduced a song believed to be about her friendship with Jesy. She spoke about the challenges of losing a friend and the struggle to cope with their absence in her life.
During the performance, she shared her difficulty in navigating through the loss and asked the audience not to make her cry to avoid affecting her vocal performance. The song she introduced was titled Same Place Different View.
