Dozens of flood warnings and alerts have been issued today due to the approaching thunderstorms with gusts of up to 60mph. The majority of these warnings are concentrated in the Southwest of England, which is currently under a thunderstorm alert by meteorologists at Netweather. The heaviest storms are expected this morning in Ceredigion, west Wales, and parts of south Wales.
The Met Office has cautioned that persistent bands of showers will affect south Wales and southwest England, potentially causing heavy downpours and thunder. With the ground in these areas already saturated, there are concerns about travel disruptions and localized surface water problems.
In Wales, there are six flood warnings and 26 less severe flood alerts in effect. Additionally, Scotland has eight active flood warnings, according to the Scottish Environment Protection Agency.
Later in the day, stormy conditions are forecasted to reach as far north as Lancashire as a low-pressure system moves northeast. Lancashire and Greater Manchester are expected to experience heavy downpours in the late afternoon, followed by drizzle moving eastwards over Yorkshire.
Netweather has issued a storm alert warning of hail, gusty winds, and torrential rain throughout the day. There is a possibility of scattered thunderstorms developing along coastal areas and moving inland, potentially leading to local flooding. The alert also mentions the slight chance of tornadoes in coastal areas of southern England due to specific weather conditions.
Although temperatures are expected to remain mild, windy conditions are anticipated with gusts reaching up to 60mph in parts of Devon and south Wales this morning. The upcoming week is also expected to be very windy.
