EE, a BT-owned company that offers broadband and television packages in addition to its mobile services, is rolling out a new feature called Smart Search on its TV devices. This feature aims to simplify the process of finding content by allowing users to search based on mood, themes, plot details, or memorable quotes rather than specific titles. By using natural language queries like “Marty McFly” or “sci-fi”, users can easily locate desired content from live TV, on-demand services, and streaming apps all in one place.
Additionally, EE is launching Mood Matcher, an AI-powered tool that assists viewers in refining their viewing choices further. By answering a few questions about mood, preferred genres, and themes, customers receive personalized recommendations, making it easier for families to select a movie for their Saturday night entertainment. While Sky offers similar voice search features, EE claims to be the first pay-TV service in the UK to introduce conversational, AI-powered search.
Luciano Oliveira, Director of Product, Home & TV at EE, emphasized the importance of simplifying the content selection process for households. Paolo Pescatore, a technology analyst, highlighted how faster content discovery enhances the overall viewing experience in a world inundated with content choices.
Smart Search and Mood Matcher are currently accessible through the EE TV app on compatible TVs, with support for EE TV Pro and EE TV Box Edge devices planned for the near future. For more information, visit ee.co.uk/smartsearch.
