A woman, Marcy L. Oglesby, has been sentenced to 50 years in prison for poisoning her long-term boyfriend, Richard “Rick” Young, with eye drops, resulting in his death. Oglesby was found guilty of murder and aggravated battery after a lengthy legal process that began in the autumn of 2021 when Young’s body was discovered in a storage unit in Maquon, Illinois.
During the sentencing hearing, the prosecution emphasized that Oglesby not only killed Young but also made him suffer by poisoning him over a year. Initially, Oglesby claimed Young died from Covid, but subsequent investigations revealed the presence of tetrahydrozoline, an ingredient in eye drops, in his body.
Karen Doubet, who lived with the couple, confessed that Oglesby had poisoned Young’s food and coffee with eye drops and crushed medication. Doubet’s testimony against Oglesby led to the dropping of murder charges against her. Further evidence, including discarded eye drop bottles and a pill crusher, was found in the couple’s home.
Despite legal challenges, including dismissed and reinstated charges, Oglesby was ultimately found guilty of murder after opting for a bench trial. She maintained her innocence during sentencing, denying the murder allegations. Oglesby’s sickening actions have led to a 50-year prison sentence, ensuring she will likely spend the rest of her life behind bars.
