“Vancouver Rise Bolster Defense with Key Signings”

Date:

The Vancouver Rise have received reinforcements as they gear up for a crucial match against the Halifax Tides. This week, the Northern Super League club welcomed two new defenders to their roster to strengthen their lineup. Chantelle Swaby, who previously played for Leicester City in the Women’s Super League, and Kaela Hansen, who joins from NSL side AFC Toronto, have signed with the Rise.

Head coach Anja Heiner-Moller expressed confidence in the new additions, highlighting Swaby’s physical presence and confidence on the field, as well as Hansen’s eagerness to contribute as a center-back. Swaby, aged 28, brings a wealth of experience from playing in various leagues around the world, including the National Women’s Soccer League, the Scottish Women’s Premier League, and France’s top division.

Swaby emphasized her calm and vocal leadership style, stating that her experience brings a sense of composure to the team during intense game situations. On the other hand, for 26-year-old Hansen, joining the Rise means returning home to Burnaby, B.C., which she considers a special moment to play in front of a local crowd and be close to her family again.

The signings of Swaby and Hansen come after the retirement of Mariah Lee, who decided to pursue a career in law and step away from professional soccer. Additionally, Vancouver bid farewell to goalkeeper Kirstin Tynan, who was loaned to the Halifax Tides for the remainder of the season.

As the defending champions of the NSL, the Vancouver Rise are aiming to secure a playoff spot as they currently trail behind Halifax by five points. Forward Jessica De Fillippo emphasized the importance of the upcoming matches, expressing the team’s determination to return to the playoffs and showcase their competitiveness until the end of the season.
