“UK Hits Russia’s Oil Giants with Fresh Sanctions”

Date:

The UK has imposed fresh sanctions on Russia’s major oil companies, Rosneft and Lukoil, in a move aimed at hitting Vladimir Putin’s war efforts. This action is part of a broader strategy involving 90 new sanctions specifically targeting Russia’s economic core. The UK government, along with its allies, is intensifying pressure on Moscow by focusing on key sectors like oil and gas. Rosneft, responsible for a significant portion of global oil production, is a primary target of these sanctions.

Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper emphasized the collective effort of the UK and its allies in confronting Putin’s aggression, stressing the need for him to shift towards peace. Chancellor Rachel Reeves reiterated the message that Russian oil will no longer be available in the market, signaling a strong stance against Putin’s actions. The UK is committed to cutting off financial support to Putin’s war machine and holding those complicit in the illegal invasion of Ukraine accountable.

Keir Starmer raised concerns with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding India’s purchase of Russian oil amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. While European allies are increasing pressure on Russia, India continues to procure discounted Russian oil. Starmer highlighted discussions on resolving the conflict and specifically addressing issues related to the Russian shadow fleet.

The UK, along with its partners, is actively engaging in diplomatic efforts to address the crisis and bring about a resolution. The focus remains on disrupting the funding sources fueling Putin’s military actions and ensuring accountability for those supporting Russia’s illegal activities.
