“UK Braces for Heavy Snowfall: Latest Forecast”

Date:

The most recent weather data indicates that multiple towns and cities in the UK may soon experience heavy snowfall. According to the GFS model maps, a wintry weather front is expected to sweep across the nation starting on December 17. Northern Ireland will likely see snowfall around 9pm, with Western Scotland, Wales, and the southwest of England also potentially experiencing snow at that time.

By the early hours of December 18, the maps suggest that snow will become concentrated in the northwest of England, including Blackpool, and across a significant portion of Scotland, especially in Glasgow. Subsequently, the snow is predicted to move eastward, reaching Newcastle and the northeast of England by 6am, with Dundee and Edinburgh also likely to see snow showers.

A second weather front is projected to bring more snow and rain on the afternoon of December 18, affecting Manchester, Liverpool, and Blackpool, as well as parts of Wales and southern Scotland. Snow coverage maps for the morning of December 19 indicate widespread snow in Northern Ireland, including Belfast, and in Scotland, impacting cities like Aberdeen, Dundee, Glasgow, and Edinburgh.

In Wales, central and northern areas are expected to be affected, while in England, several locations north of Stoke-on-Trent could also see snow accumulation. The Met Office has issued warnings about wintry conditions for this month, forecasting a pattern of occasional rain and potential strong winds, with a slight drop in temperatures leading to wintry hazards in northern parts of the UK.

BBC Weather also anticipates the possibility of snow, with the week from December 15 to 21 likely to remain unsettled due to low pressure systems near Iceland and Greenland, resulting in wet and windy weather across the UK. While milder temperatures are expected, occasional colder spells could bring snow to higher elevations in northern parts of the UK.
