Beer lovers have reason to celebrate as a recent study has pinpointed the most budget-friendly location to grab a pint in the world.
While Nottingham in the UK offers a reasonably priced pint at £1.63, the real bargains can be found across Italy, Germany, and Spain, where the cost of a bottle of beer is notably lower. The analysis, conducted by experts at Magnet Kitchens using data from Numbeo, examined 190 cities globally in 2024 to determine beer prices.
Germany dominates the top 10 list, with cities like Wandsbek, Nuremberg, Bielefeld, and Bremen offering bottles for as low as 74p. Spain’s Zaragoza, known as the ‘city of beer,’ stands out with a tempting 72p pint.
Additional German cities like Wuppertal, Bochum, Bochum-Hordel, and Dresden share the second spot with 71p bottles. However, it is a coastal city in southern Italy that boasts the cheapest beer at just 65p.
Comparing prices globally, Taranto in Italy offers beer at a staggering 11.5 times cheaper than the most expensive city, Darwin in Australia (£7.48). Taranto also secures a place in the top 10 for the world’s lowest-priced bottle of wine, priced at £3.87.
With 20 German cities in the top 50 for beer and eight in the top 30 for wine, Germany proves to be a haven for alcohol aficionados. Zaragoza emerges as more than twice as affordable as Cordoba, the priciest Spanish city charging £1.57 for a bottle of beer.
In Spain, 18 cities make it to the top 50, with Las Palmas in Gran Canaria coming in second at 77p, narrowly missing a spot in the global top 10.
