A powerful storm named Bram is expected to bring strong winds of up to 85mph and heavy rainfall to 84 different areas. According to new weather maps, regions in the South West, Dorset, Wales, Lancashire, Cumbria, southwest Scotland, and Northern Ireland may experience up to 28mm of rain by 6am on Tuesday. The maps also indicate that by 12pm, 85mph gales are likely to impact Wales, the South West, and Cumbria.
As the day progresses, heavy rain bands will move towards the north, with the central belt of Scotland predicted to receive around 15mm of rainfall. The Met Office has issued multiple amber and yellow rain warnings across various parts of the country for tomorrow.
Northern Ireland is under a yellow wind warning, anticipating gusts between 50mph and 70mph. Storm Bram is also forecasted to bring gusts exceeding 70mph in the Highlands, southern Scotland, Cumbria, Wales, and the South West. Amber rain warnings are in effect just north of Plymouth from midnight until noon on Tuesday.
The region faces the risk of flooding and structural damage due to the storm. Another amber rain warning has been issued for southern Wales, where fast-flowing or deep floodwater is expected during the same period. In northwest Scotland, strong gales are anticipated, leading to an amber wind warning from 4pm to midnight on Wednesday, which could result in road and bridge closures along with delays and cancellations.
Dan Suri, Chief Forecaster at the Met Office, stated that Storm Bram will bring intense rain and strong winds, potentially causing flooding issues due to the already saturated ground. In northwest Scotland, gusts of up to 90 mph could be recorded, with Wales, southwest England, and Northern Ireland expecting gusts ranging from 50-70 mph. Additionally, heavy rainfall is expected in parts of Wales and Devon, possibly requiring updated warnings.
