Starmer Dodges Nobel Prize Question Amid Gaza Ceasefire Hope

Date:

Keir Starmer avoided addressing inquiries today regarding the potential awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to Donald Trump, a recognition the US President has openly desired for a long time.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister expressed relief over the agreement reached on the initial phase of a ceasefire plan in Gaza, describing it as a critical moment for the global community. This development could lead to the release of hostages and the cessation of the violence that has resulted in a significant loss of life in Gaza.

During a press briefing in Mumbai, India, Mr. Starmer commended President Trump for his involvement in the negotiations for the agreement, which also included representatives from Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey.

When asked about Trump’s eligibility for the Nobel Peace Prize, a goal he has vocally pursued, Starmer evaded a direct response. He emphasized the importance of acknowledging President Trump’s leadership in the successful negotiations and stressed the need to move forward with the implementation of the agreement.

Regarding questions about former Labour PM Sir Tony Blair’s potential role in the Gaza peace plan, Starmer dismissed them, focusing instead on the positive outcome of the deal. He highlighted the significance of the breakthrough and the positive impact it will have on those most affected, particularly hostages, their families, and civilians in Gaza who have endured immense suffering during the conflict.

Starmer underscored the UK’s behind-the-scenes contributions to the negotiations and reaffirmed the country’s readiness to assist in the implementation of the agreement.
