A family residing in Squamish, British Columbia, had a fortunate escape from a construction mishap on Hamilton Street’s 1800 block. Claire Johnstone and her family narrowly avoided a disaster when a scaffold collapsed near their car on August 11. Startled by the loud crash, Johnstone quickly reacted to protect her young son as debris struck their vehicle with metal and other materials.
Feeling vulnerable and powerless, Johnstone described the tense moments as they tried to drive away from the collapsing scaffold. Despite the panic, the family managed to park the car safely and assess the situation after exiting the vehicle.
Witnessing two injured men trapped in the wreckage, Johnstone called for help from passersby to contact emergency services. The incident was classified as a workplace accident by the police, prompting an investigation by law enforcement and occupational health and safety officials.
Although unharmed, the family had to rush to the hospital for their son’s examination. Reviewing the Tesla’s footage later, Johnstone was shocked to see the close call they had experienced. Reflecting on the emotional turmoil, she expressed gratitude for their safety but acknowledged the haunting impact of the incident.
Johnstone emphasized the unpredictability of the situation, realizing that minor decisions like parking location could have altered the outcome significantly. Despite the lingering anxiety, she found solace in cherishing the time spent with her son, acknowledging the importance of their bond in the face of potential tragedy.
