The Davis Cup final’s second singles match was interrupted due to a spectator falling ill in the stands. Flavio Cobolli of Italy was in the middle of a crucial point against Jaume Munar when the incident occurred.
Munar had taken the lead by winning the first set 6-1 and was ahead in the second set when Cobolli had a chance to break back. The match was paused as the medical team attended to the fan, and both players returned to their benches.
Commentator Arvind Parmar commended Cobolli for his swift response to the situation, noting the crowd’s quick reaction and the ongoing assistance provided to the affected spectator.
After the interruption, umpire Marijana Veljovic conferred with the players, and Italian captain Filippo Volandri offered guidance to Cobolli. The fan was eventually escorted from the stands, leading to a brief delay before play resumed.
Following the delay, Cobolli managed to break Munar’s serve and evened the score in the second set at 1-1. Italy was leading 1-0 in the overall match, with Matteo Berrettini securing a victory over Pablo Carreno Busta. A win for Cobolli would mark Italy’s third consecutive tournament win, a feat not achieved since 1972 by the USA.
However, if Munar wins, the match will proceed to a decisive doubles round. Both teams are missing key players as Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner withdrew before the final began.
The delay lasted approximately ten minutes, but Cobolli’s comeback kept the match competitive. The outcome of the second singles match will significantly impact the overall results of the Davis Cup final.
