Defiant organizers of a protest backing the banned group Palestine Action have refused to cancel the event despite the Manchester synagogue attack. The demonstration is set to take place at Trafalgar Square, with hundreds expected to attend in solidarity with the group.
Even after the Metropolitan Police requested a postponement following the recent attack in Manchester, the organizers, Defend Our Juries, reaffirmed their commitment to proceed with the protest as scheduled. They emphasized the importance of protecting democracy and preventing further casualties, urging the police to focus on community safety rather than arresting peaceful protesters.
The protesters are urging the Government to overturn the ban on Palestine Action, criticizing the Home Office for straining police resources unnecessarily. They argue that the ban hampers efforts to protect lives in Palestine and diverts attention from real security threats.
In response, the Metropolitan Police expressed concerns about the potential strain on resources due to the planned gathering in support of a terrorist organization. They called on Defend Our Juries to act responsibly by reconsidering their plans in light of the recent terrorist incident in Manchester, emphasizing the need for community safety above all else.
