The founder and CEO of the financial platform LendingTree, Doug Lebda, has tragically passed away following a quad bike incident on his family’s farm in North Carolina, as confirmed by his company. He was 55 years old and is survived by his wife Megan and their three daughters, Rachel, Abby, and Sophia. Megan expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support from around the globe, stating, “Our hearts are shattered, but we appreciate the love and assistance we have received.”
In memory of Doug, Megan highlighted his enduring legacy in the company he established, the people he influenced, and the model he set for leading with kindness, courage, and empathy.
Following his passing, Scott Peyree has been appointed as the new CEO of LendingTree, stepping in for Mr. Lebda. Additionally, Steve Ozonian will assume the role of chairman of the board, as stated by the company.
Mr. Lebda, with a net worth of $467 million (£352 million), established LendingTree in 1996 with the aim of simplifying the loan shopping process after facing challenges securing his initial mortgage. The company, which went public in 2000 and was later acquired by IAC for $726 million (£632 million), operates from Charlotte, North Carolina, and oversees various brands within the US financial sector, such as CompareCards and Value Penguin.
Reflecting on his entrepreneurial journey, Mr. Lebda revealed that his business ideas stemmed from personal experiences and obstacles, as shared in an interview with The Wall Street Journal in 2012.
