John Tory, the previous mayor of Toronto, has been appointed as the new chair of the board of directors at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Tory expressed his enthusiasm for collaborating with the board, leaders, artists, filmmakers, and the broader TIFF community to influence its future direction.
His tenure is scheduled to commence on October 1, as stated in a recent news release. The festival is set to take place from September 10 to 20 this year. Tory takes over from Jeffrey Remedios, who held the position since 2021. Remedios commended TIFF and its leadership, expressing enduring pride in his contributions to the festival.
Additionally, TIFF introduced three new board members: Deborah Flint, David Furnish, and Daniel Tisch Echevarría. Asha Daniere, who served on the board for nine years, will be stepping down. TIFF expressed gratitude for Daniere’s dedication and contributions to the organization.
