An easyJet flight attendant recently shared insights into the covert communication system used by cabin crew members while in-flight. An unidentified staff member from the budget airline’s team disclosed these insider details on their Instagram account.
Due to the large number of passengers aboard and the elongated fuselage of the aircraft, verbal communication among crew members is often impractical. Therefore, they have developed a unique ‘secret language’ consisting of various gestures to convey messages.
This non-verbal communication system involves specific hand gestures to indicate different food items. For instance, a gesture mimicking a crocodile represents a croque monsieur, while extending an arm like a chicken wing followed by rolling hands signifies a chicken wrap. Lastly, placing the heel of hands together and folding palms and fingers illustrates a calzone.
Viewers were impressed by this revelation, with one commenter describing it as “absolutely iconic.” Others recounted their experiences of observing these gestures during flights and trying to decode their meanings.
The ingenious use of this internal sign language by cabin crew members showcases their efficient communication methods, ensuring smooth operations during flights.
