Europe’s most unusual museum, showcasing a collection of penises and penile parts, has been named by delighted Brits as the quirkiest museum in Europe. The Icelandic Phallological Museum in Reykjavik secured the top position in an easyJet survey, edging out the Sewer Museum in Paris, which came in second place. Other notable entries in the top 20 list included the Museum of Broken Relationships in Zagreb, Croatia, and the Torture Museum in Amsterdam.
The survey, conducted by easyJet and involving 2,000 participants, highlighted a growing interest in offbeat cultural experiences among British travelers. An overwhelming 88% expressed a desire for a unique twist in their city breaks, with 79% admitting to booking trips specifically to explore unconventional attractions like quirky museums and art galleries.
Furthermore, the study revealed that 22% of holidaymakers preferred venturing off the traditional tourist path during city breaks. Additionally, 84% indicated a willingness to pay extra for exclusive and uncommon cultural encounters, with 81% expressing a desire to visit one of the museums featured in easyJet’s list.
Notably, 32% of Brits found visiting unusual museums more enjoyable than exploring well-known landmarks. Among Gen Z respondents, a staggering 80% stated that they would be more inclined to visit a peculiar museum if they had seen it on social media platforms like Instagram or TikTok.
