Gail’s bakery chain has announced that ten of its outlets will be operational on Christmas Day. The company will be offering complimentary mince pies to customers visiting these locations on December 25. Additionally, all Gail’s bakeries will be open as usual on Christmas Eve and Boxing Day.
In a recent Instagram post, Gail’s stated, “If you find yourself out and about on Christmas Day, a few of our bakeries will be open. A cozy spot for a coffee, a fresh loaf, or a friendly face on a serene morning. And if you drop by, we’ll treat you to a mince pie as a token of gratitude for spending part of your day with us (while supplies last).”
The bakery chain has disclosed plans to expand its presence with the opening of 40 new stores in England, including locations beyond London. Gail’s unveiled financial results showing sales of £278 million for the year ending February 2025, marking a 20% increase from the previous year. However, pre-tax losses rose to £7.8 million due to business expenses and staffing costs associated with new store openings.
With over 4,000 employees as of February, Gail’s experienced a growth in staff numbers following a recruitment campaign. The company also operates a wholesale business that supplies baked goods to various supermarkets such as Waitrose and Ocado.
Gail’s sourdough loaves are priced starting at around £4.80, with the retail segment identified as the faster-growing and more profitable division within the group. The company emphasized the importance of offering innovative, high-quality food in appealing neighborhood bakery settings to sustain growth in a competitive market.
A spokesperson expressed satisfaction with the strong year-on-year growth, attributing it to the increasing demand for nutritious food and community support. Gail’s affirmed its commitment to purposeful growth and enhancing access to quality food moving forward.
