Former FBI Director Slams TV News as “A** Clown Factory”

Date:

Former FBI director under Donald Trump’s administration, Kash Patel, criticized a TV news network, referring to it as an “a** clown factory” in an online outburst. Patel, who now oversees the FBI for Trump, objected to a story aired on MSNBC about an agent’s dismissal for refusing to participate in organizing a “perp walk” of former director James Comey. The FBI’s pursuit of Comey, at Trump’s behest, is based on allegations of lying to Congress.

Reports from various news sources indicated that FBI leadership sought a dramatic arrest of Comey, described as a “showy” operation. They allegedly requested “large, beefy” agents outfitted in full tactical gear, including FBI-branded Kevlar vests, for the arrest. When asked to assemble agents meeting these criteria, Chris Ray, a supervisory special agent in the violent crimes division, declined, deeming it inappropriate and highly unusual for a white-collar defendant like Comey. Subsequently, Ray was reportedly suspended for insubordination.

MSNBC legal analyst Barb McQuade highlighted that the Department of Justice policy prohibits “perp walks,” which involve showcasing arrestees to the media. Patel seemed to confirm the incident involving Agent Ray’s removal in a sensational and factually incorrect post, criticizing MSNBC for spreading disinformation.

Perp walks typically involve pre-planned media events where detainees, often in restraints, are filmed being led into a police station or courthouse. Patel’s post mentioned individuals like Stone, Navarro, and Bannon, insinuating MSNBC’s bias in covering such events. However, only one of the individuals listed was actually subjected to a perp walk, and notably, none were conducted by the FBI.

Contrary to Patel’s claims, Peter Navarro was not perp walked. He was arrested at an airport for defying a subpoena and sentenced to jail. Roger Stone and Steve Bannon also did not experience perp walks by the FBI. Stone faced charges related to witness tampering, obstruction of justice, and lying to Congress, leading to a dawn raid, while Bannon was convicted of financial fraud and later pardoned by Trump.
