After shooting intense scenes on Coronation Street, Tanisha Gorey has discovered a perfect way to unwind – by relaxing on the couch with a Disney movie.
“It’s been weeks of long days, filled with sadness and tears,” Tanisha shared. “Sometimes it’s hard to shake off those emotions, and I found myself carrying them home.”
“Since I was constantly preparing lines for the next day, there was no escape from the heavy feelings. My boyfriend helps me out of that mindset. He suggests watching something light-hearted to unwind.”
“Embarrassingly, I have a soft spot for Disney movies. To lift my spirits, I turned to Hannah Montana: The Movie and High School Musical. Anything cheerful that brings back childhood memories and distracts me from work.”
Tanisha, 23, expressed gratitude for her partner Lucas Whelan’s unwavering support. “He’s amazing,” she beamed. “He’s always there for me, cooking dinner, keeping the house tidy, and doing the laundry when I get home late. He’s incredibly supportive.”
Although Lucas works in finance, he steps up to help Tanisha rehearse her lines. “He takes on different characters like Dev, Bernie, Nina, and Summer,” she explained. “Even though he’s not an actor, it’s quite amusing – his profession contrasts mine, but he enjoys it.”
Asha’s battle with mental health issues amid the challenges of her paramedic job has been a central storyline. In a recent episode, she faced racist abuse from a woman named Naomi during a traumatic shift, triggering distressing memories and leading her to consider quitting.
Tanisha revealed, “Asha reaches a breaking point and contemplates ending her life, seeking solace in alcohol. Despite surviving a suicide attempt, she continues to struggle with depression, emphasizing the importance of seeking help.”
Having encountered racial abuse from a young age, Tanisha appreciates Coronation Street’s portrayal of its damaging effects. Growing up in a predominantly white community with white parents, she faced discrimination and scrutiny.
Reflecting on her 17-year tenure on the show, Tanisha recounted her journey from child actor to a pivotal character. She highlighted the positive response to Asha’s body image storyline and expressed a commitment to continuing her role on the show.
While her on-screen twin brother recently departed the series, Tanisha affirmed her dedication to Coronation Street. She humorously remarked, “I’m not ready to leave yet. I haven’t had as wild a ride as Gail Platt, who has faced numerous dramatic twists. There’s plenty more for me to explore!”
