A British woman is devastated following the death of her husband during a lavish family vacation in the Canary Islands due to salmonella poisoning. Leslie Green, aged 70, fell severely ill while staying at the upscale Occidental Jandia Playa resort in Fuerteventura to celebrate his milestone birthday. Despite medical care, his condition worsened, leading to complications such as sepsis and kidney failure, ultimately resulting in his passing after about four weeks.
Leslie’s wife of 38 years, Julie, also contracted salmonella and was hospitalized shortly after her husband. She shared concerns about the quality of the food they consumed at the resort, mentioning lukewarm carbonara sauce and undercooked chicken. Julie recounted witnessing lapses in food handling practices, including food being mixed with items left out and staff not adhering to proper hygiene measures.
Julie, a retired NHS assistant nurse, expressed deep sorrow over the tragic turn of events during what was meant to be a celebratory holiday. She emphasized the severity of Leslie’s illness, her own health struggles, and the emotional turmoil of witnessing her husband’s decline and eventual passing. Julie highlighted Leslie’s positive traits and their shattered retirement plans, expressing a desire for answers regarding the circumstances that led to their ordeal.
The couple’s daughters and grandchild were also affected by the heartbreaking event, with one daughter present at Leslie’s bedside during his final moments. Another guest at the resort, Michaela Smith, also fell ill with salmonella around the same time and sought legal assistance for similar concerns. A legal representative for Julie emphasized the serious implications of food-related illnesses and pledged to investigate the case thoroughly to provide answers and support to the affected parties.
As investigations continue, holidaymakers planning trips to the resort are advised to exercise caution, and measures to address potential health risks for future guests are being considered. The legal team involved is committed to addressing any identified issues and ensuring support for individuals with concerns related to their experiences at the resort.
