I had an amazing experience over a two-week period exploring Disney World and Universal in Florida. Both theme parks are vast and offer a plethora of activities that are impossible to fully enjoy in just a fortnight.
The sheer size of Disney World is mind-boggling, akin to a city or county on its own. It rivals the dimensions of San Francisco in the USA or Manchester in the UK, being twice the size of Manhattan. Disney World boasts its own infrastructure, from roads to transportation options like ferries, cable cars, and a fleet of 490 buses. To put it into perspective, the entire Cardiff Bus network comprises only 171 buses.
With approximately 58 million annual visitors, Disney World stands as a major tourist attraction, surpassing the inbound visits to the UK in 2024. Employing 80,000 individuals, it holds the title of the largest employer in Florida.
In comparison, Universal may seem smaller, but it is still a colossal entity. Its more compact size offers advantages, allowing visitors to easily navigate between different parks on foot, a convenience not found in Disney World.
Beyond just rides, both Disney World and Universal, located near Orlando, offer a diverse range of entertainment options. From shows featuring beloved characters like Beauty and the Beast to parades, fireworks displays, and character interactions, there is no shortage of activities to enjoy. However, for many visitors, the rides remain the main attraction.
During my two-week stay, I had the opportunity to experience over 50 rides, catering to both thrill-seekers and younger audiences. The rides are an integral part of the Disney and Universal experiences, with many family-friendly options being just as enjoyable as the adrenaline-inducing flagship roller coasters.
Among the top rides at both parks, the Volcano Bay water park at Universal stands out. The heart of the park is a towering volcano, featuring a thrilling body plunge ride that sends riders plummeting through a dark tube from the top to the bottom.
Each ride offers a unique experience, from immersive flights to spooky mansion tours. Whether it’s a gentle boat ride or a high-speed roller coaster, Disney World and Universal have something for everyone.
From water adventures to futuristic journeys, the variety of rides at these theme parks ensures that every visitor can find something to suit their preferences. Whether you seek thrills or prefer a more leisurely experience, Disney World and Universal deliver unforgettable moments for guests of all ages.
