“Munich Airport Winter Wonderland: Festive Ice Skating & Christmas Market”

Date:

As the holiday season approaches, many people are turning their attention to festive activities, and one standout attraction is an impressive ice skating rink located in an airport just a short flight away from the UK.

Munich Airport is once again hosting its enchanting winter wonderland for the 25th consecutive year, featuring a sprawling 600 square meter ice rink and a Christmas market. The airport, known for its annual Christmas markets, will be decked out in holiday splendor with approximately 40 market stalls adorned with twinkling lights and wreaths, offering a variety of handcrafted gifts, delicious specialties, and festive delights. Visitors can wander through a festive pine forest and relax in cozy huts while enjoying a cup of mulled wine to fully immerse themselves in the holiday spirit.

Aside from shopping and dining, visitors can also take advantage of the expansive ice skating rink which is open daily from 11am to 9pm. For just £4.40 (€5), guests can enjoy unlimited skating time, a great value compared to similar activities in the UK that often limit skating time to just an hour. Skate rentals are available for an additional £4.40 (€5), and visitors can also try their hand at curling for approximately £22 (€25) per hour.

The winter wonderland offers a plethora of entertainment options for the entire family, including ice discos on Wednesdays at 6pm, and a wide array of Christmas-themed activities such as wreath-making, ornament crafting, bauble decorating, and ceramic painting. Children can delight in face painting, magic shows, soap bubble performances, and special appearances by Santa Claus on select dates in November and December.

After dark, visitors can enjoy live performances by local artists and bands covering various music genres such as pop, rock, funk, swing, Latin, gospel, and modern folk. Additionally, guests have the opportunity to embark on a magical 50-minute Christmas light tour around the airport.

This year, the winter wonderland introduces a heartwarming “Wish Tree” initiative where visitors can select a wish from the tree, fulfill it by purchasing a gift for a child, and drop off the gift at the designated “Elk Hut” by December 18th, spreading joy to children in need.

The Munich Airport Center (MAC) will unveil its winter wonderland on Friday, November 14th, inviting everyone to revel in the festive magic until Sunday, December 28th. The Christmas market is open daily from 11am to 9pm, with the exception of Christmas Eve when it closes at 4pm.

Travelers can easily reach Munich from London Gatwick in under two hours, with fares starting as low as £14.49 through easyJet. Upon arrival, visitors can immediately immerse themselves in the enchanting winter wonderland at Munich Airport without venturing far.
