Amy Dowden, a professional dancer on the popular show Strictly Come Dancing, has embraced a new outlook on life after overcoming breast cancer. Diagnosed with the illness in May 2023, she received the all-clear about eighteen months ago.
Returning to the BBC show this season, Amy is partnered with Thomas Skinner, known for his appearance on The Apprentice. Following a performance to Dizzee Rascal’s Bonkers, where Amy was lifted and spun during a Salsa routine, she shared with host Claudia Winkleman her belief that life is too short not to take risks.
Despite receiving a low score of 13 from judges Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, and Anton Du Beke for their routine, Amy humorously mentioned being a bit frightened by her partner’s intense focus during rehearsals.
Amy recounted her medical journey, explaining that initially scheduled for a lumpectomy, further tests revealed more tumors than anticipated, leading to a mastectomy. She emphasized the importance of having all options presented clearly during such critical decision-making moments.
Having missed the 2023 series due to cancer treatment, Amy made a triumphant return the following year with partner JB Gill from JLS. Unfortunately, she had to withdraw from the competition due to a foot injury in October, with fellow dancer Lauren Oakley stepping in to partner with JB.
The Strictly team expressed their support for Amy’s recovery and well-being, prioritizing the health of everyone involved in the show. Amy’s journey serves as an inspiration to viewers, showcasing her resilience and determination to overcome challenges both on and off the dance floor.
