Robbie Williams had to call off a concert in Istanbul over safety concerns. The renowned musician, set to perform in the city, announced the cancellation citing worries about public safety. This decision came from the event organizer who opted to prioritize security amidst potential risks and public disapproval.
The 51-year-old singer was slated to take the stage at Istanbul’s Atakoy Marina. However, the show was axed due to security threats and potential backlash from the public. The concert was scheduled for October 7, coincidentally two years after the tragic events in Israel involving Hamas, where numerous innocent lives were lost, and many were held hostage in Gaza.
In a statement, Robbie expressed regret over not being able to perform in Istanbul as planned. He emphasized that the cancellation was a result of city authorities’ concerns for public safety. Robbie conveyed his disappointment as Istanbul was chosen as the final stop for the BRITPOP tour, aiming to conclude the successful series of shows in front of his Turkish fans.
The Foreign Office currently advises against travel to certain parts of Turkey, cautioning that travel insurance may be void if disregarding their recommendations. The office specifically warns against traveling within 10km of the Syrian border due to ongoing conflicts and heightened terrorism risks.
Concerns arose following Robbie’s supportive remarks on Israel post the October 7 incidents. He previously mentioned raising his children in the Jewish faith, following his wife Ayda’s heritage. During a Tel Aviv concert in 2023, Robbie openly expressed his gratitude towards the Jewish community and shared his commitment to upholding Jewish traditions at home as a sign of respect.
