Trump Labels Anti-Trump Protesters as “Terrorists” in Far-Right Meeting

Date:

Donald Trump recently convened a meeting with far-right influencers where he labeled protesters opposing his administration as “terrorists.” During the meeting, Trump made unfounded claims about violent protests in Chicago, Illinois, and Portland, Oregon, allegedly to justify his intentions to intervene in states governed by Democrats he disagrees with.

Accusing elections of being “rigged” and criticizing critical news coverage, Trump received praise from MAGA-supportive online personalities. He also asserted, without evidence, that anti-Trump protesters were “paid anarchists” as he claimed there was an “epidemic” of left-wing violence.

Trump expressed his intention to counter threats from protesters against his immigration policies, stating that his administration would be more forceful in response. He also called for scrutiny of those funding such protest activities.

Moreover, Trump posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, demanding the imprisonment of Illinois Governor JB Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson for resisting the deployment of National Guard troops. Despite legal challenges, National Guard troops from Texas are now stationed outside Chicago.

In another instance, Trump invited a group of right-wing social media figures to the White House to discuss “Antifa,” a movement described as opposing fascism, racism, and far-right extremism. The meeting included false claims, such as the arrest of the girlfriend of an alleged Antifa founder, despite Antifa not having any formal founders.

Trump’s statements about invoking the “insurrection act” to override state governors who oppose military intervention drew criticism from pro-democracy groups. The President’s attempts to deploy troops in various states faced legal obstacles, with judges blocking his efforts to send National Guard troops from California to Oregon.

Despite Trump’s assertions of unrest in Portland, Oregon, there is no widespread ongoing turmoil, nor is there evidence of violence targeting federal immigration authorities as claimed by the White House. The President’s actions have raised concerns about potential violations of constitutional rights and the use of military force against peaceful protests.
