“Freely Emerges as Top TV Competitor in UK”

Date:

A new player in the TV market, Freely, has emerged as a strong competitor to Sky and Freeview in the UK. Launched in 2024, Freely has quickly gained popularity, with over one million households switching to its platform.

Since its inception, Freely has continuously enhanced its features and expanded its content offerings. Users can now access over 50 live channels without the need for traditional aerial or satellite dish installations.

The latest development from Freely is the introduction of Freely Spotlight Channels, which provide additional entertainment options to users at no extra cost. These channels can be streamed exclusively through a standard Wi-Fi connection.

The Spotlight Channels will be accessible on channel 31, as well as channels 90 to 99, and will also be available to CTV OS partners on Freely-enabled devices. V, the company behind the VIDAA OS smart TV platform utilized in Hisense televisions, is the launch partner for the Spotlight Channels initiative.

The addition of Freely Spotlight Channels will offer viewers a curated selection of channels alongside established UK broadcasters, enhancing the visibility and credibility of selected channels within the UK’s regulated TV landscape.

While specific content details for the Spotlight Channels are yet to be disclosed, more information is expected closer to the launch date. Deep Halder, Chief Commercial Officer at Everyone TV, emphasized the platform’s commitment to delivering long-term value and creating new opportunities for partners while ensuring free, reliable TV content remains easily accessible to UK audiences.

For those unfamiliar with Freely, it is managed by the same team behind Freeview and Freesat but distinguishes itself by delivering all content through a broadband connection, eliminating the need for traditional TV equipment. Users only require a compatible TV or set-top box and a stable Wi-Fi connection to access Freely’s offerings, which include over 50 live channels, on-demand content, personalized recommendations, a comprehensive TV guide, and the ability to pause live TV.
