“Greggs’ Golden Flake Tavern: Classic Pub Vibes with Unique Menu & Cozy Atmosphere”

Date:

A writer visiting The Golden Flake Tavern, a new establishment by Greggs in Newcastle’s Fenwick department store, found the ambiance reminiscent of a traditional pub. The menu, showcasing Greggs’ signature pastries alongside a variety of innovative dishes, includes a unique ‘build-your-own’ Sunday carvery option. The tavern, set to open to the public soon, features different seating areas, a cozy atmosphere, and a nostalgic decor with vintage touches.

The tavern offers an array of starters like southern fried chicken goujons and mac ‘n’ cheese bites, as well as mains such as a ploughman’s platter and a fish-finger sandwich. The meals, including a steak bake mixed grill, were described as satisfying and flavorful. Desserts pay homage to Greggs classics, with options like a Pink Jammie doughnut trifle and a Yum Yum bread-and-butter pudding.

Patrons can enjoy a selection of beverages at the bar, ranging from wines and spirits to beers and cocktails. Special brews by the local Full Circle Brewery are available, with the Gosforth 1939 Stottie Lager receiving positive feedback. The tavern offers a unique yet familiar experience, embodying the essence of a beloved local spot.

The Golden Flake Tavern opens daily from 11am to 7pm, with last orders at 5.45pm. On Sundays, a weekly carvery is served from 11am to 5pm, with the last seating at 3.30pm. The establishment plans to remain open until February 14 next year, concluding with a special St. Valentine’s Day event. Walk-ins are welcome, and online table reservations are available.
