At the recent founding conference of Your Party, former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn called for unity among the 2,000 delegates in attendance. Despite rumors of disruption, the event proceeded smoothly without any major incidents.
Corbyn emphasized the need to avoid division and work together towards the common goal of promoting real socialism and social justice. However, tensions arose when former Labour MP Zarah Sultana expressed disappointment over expulsions from the party just before the conference.
Sultana, along with her supporters, voiced concerns about the expulsions, emphasizing the importance of inclusivity within the party. Despite initial chaos, Sultana eventually delivered her keynote speech, acknowledging flaws in the party’s founding process and apologizing for any disruptions.
The conference concluded with a significant decision to adopt a new leadership structure, opting for a committee of ordinary members instead of a single leadership model. Members also voted on the party’s official name, ultimately choosing “Your Party” as the preferred option.
Corbyn reiterated the party’s commitment to unity and principles, urging delegates to work together and consider the impact of their actions on people nationwide. As Your Party moves forward with its unique leadership model, the challenge remains to uphold unity and effectiveness in serving the country.
