Britons are encountering travel disruptions this morning as thick fog blankets various parts of the country. The Met Office has issued a weather warning for the fog, which is expected to persist until approximately 10 am. The alert spans multiple regions, with the Midlands and the Home Counties likely to experience the densest fog.
According to the weather agency’s official statement, fog patches, especially in rural areas with visibility less than 100 meters in some places, are anticipated to gradually dissipate throughout the morning. This weather condition may result in slower journey times, delays in bus and train services, and possible flight interruptions.
Although Birmingham Airport lies outside the warned areas, it remains on high alert due to the potential visibility reduction caused by the fog. Bristol Airport and East Midlands Airport could also face weather-related challenges despite being just outside the official alert zone.
Treacherous driving conditions are foreseen, particularly on rural roads in the Home Counties. Major motorways like M40, M5, and M1 might also present challenges during the morning rush.
The Met Office advises individuals to stay informed about road conditions, allocate extra travel time, and adjust plans accordingly to minimize delays. While the fog is expected to gradually dissipate, rain is forecasted to follow, especially along the western coast of Wales, Lancashire, and Cumbria later in the day. Temperatures are projected to be colder compared to Tuesday, with highs reaching 8C to 9C in Southeast England, although Slough, Berkshire, recorded a peak of 12.6C on Tuesday.
