A thick blanket of fog is expected to cover several areas of the country this morning, prompting the Met Office to issue a travel warning due to potential disruptions for drivers, commuters, and air travelers.
The weather agency has issued a yellow warning for thick fog affecting five regions between 7:15am and 10am, advising individuals to check their flight statuses and road conditions, allocate extra travel time, or consider altering their plans if needed. Possible delays and cancellations are anticipated for bus, train, and air services. Additionally, a separate rain warning is in effect for Scotland until midnight.
Those affected by the fog are urged to take precautions by checking road conditions, allowing extra time for travel, and ensuring fog lights are operational before departing. Public transportation services and flights might also experience disruptions, necessitating updates from travel providers and adherence to their guidance.
The weather forecast for the day includes predominantly cloudy conditions in the northern and western regions with rain becoming widespread and heavy by the afternoon. In contrast, the southeast is expected to be drier with some sunshine, gradually becoming cloudier later in the day. The western areas are anticipated to experience increasingly windy conditions, with potential gales.
Until midnight, three regions in Scotland – Central, Tayside & Fife, Highlands & Eilean Siar, and Strathclyde – are forecasted to receive persistent, heavy rain that could result in transportation interruptions and flooding. Apart from travel disruptions, certain communities may face isolation due to flooded roads or landslides, while challenging driving conditions and road closures are probable due to spray and flooding.
The Met Office has cautioned about the possibility of power outages and service disruptions for some residences and businesses affected by flooding.
