“EE Customers Warned: Beware of Resurgence in Scam Texts”

Date:

EE mobile users are being cautioned about a resurgence of a scam text message. Cybersecurity experts have alerted that EE customers are receiving urgent texts threatening the loss of EE reward points unless immediate action is taken. These messages are part of a scam where cybercriminals impersonate the EE network to trick people into clicking on harmful links leading to fake websites for stealing login credentials.

The success of this scam relies on creating a sense of urgency to prompt unsuspecting users to act without thinking. Genuine EE alerts are only received within official EE accounts and not through unsolicited texts. Users are advised to be wary of messages pushing for quick actions as they could be potential scams. Any suspicious texts should be reported to 7726 and promptly deleted.

This type of scam has previously targeted EE customers, with reports of convincing fake messages circulating earlier this year. EE has clarified that it does not have a points program and has highlighted examples of scam messages to raise awareness among users.

EE’s latest advice includes avoiding clicking on unknown links in text messages, refraining from replying to suspicious messages or calling the sender, and never sharing personal or financial information. EE users are urged to exercise caution to protect themselves from falling victim to such scams.
