Last month, the same set of groceries at Aldi averaged £121.22, narrowly beating out Lidl at £122.35 and Tesco at £136.20 for non-Clubcard holders.
Waitrose emerged as the priciest option, with an average total of £166.79 for the same items. Opting for Aldi or Waitrose for all groceries could result in savings exceeding £45.
Which? conducts this comparison monthly, evaluating the pricing of eight supermarket chains on a selection of products that include both own-brand and popular branded items like Birds Eye peas and Hovis bread.
Asda stood out as the most cost-effective option for a larger shopping list of 183 items at £455.52 on average in the past month. The supermarket chain is committed to reducing prices to regain market share lost to competitors, including discount stores.
In a separate comparison, Waitrose was identified as the most expensive choice for the larger shopping list, totaling £522.91 on average, significantly higher than Asda’s cost. The analysis underscores the potential savings by shopping strategically at different supermarkets.
