“UK Microcomputers Found in Russian Missiles, Urgent Sanctions Needed”

Date:

British microcomputers were discovered in Russian missiles and drones used during the recent attacks on Ukraine, revealed President Volodymyr Zelensky. He emphasized that these weapons also contained over 100,000 components from various foreign countries such as Germany, Japan, and the US, urging for more stringent sanctions against Russia.

According to a spokesperson from the Department for Business and Trade (DBT), the UK government is actively targeting British companies whose products are ending up in Russian armaments. The spokesperson stated that the government has already restricted the export of numerous goods to Russia, including items highlighted by Ukraine, as part of the most severe sanctions package.

The DBT spokesperson emphasized the seriousness of the situation, mentioning that non-compliance with the sanctions could result in significant financial penalties or even criminal prosecution. They highlighted that more than £20 billion ($26.9 billion) worth of UK-Russia business transactions are now subject to sanctions.

President Zelensky stressed the importance of dismantling any efforts to evade sanctions, indicating that UK-made microcomputers were crucial for controlling drone flights. He also noted that Ukraine’s allies possess detailed information on companies and products that continue to support Russia’s military capabilities.

Zelensky further identified China, Taiwan, and the Netherlands as countries responsible for manufacturing components found in Russian weaponry. The recent strikes launched by Russia resulted in civilian casualties, including the tragic deaths of four family members, including a teenager, in Lapaivka village.

Despite the extensive sanctions imposed on Russia following the invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the country’s economy has shown resilience, avoiding financial collapse. Increased military spending has offset job losses in sanctioned sectors, leading to continued economic growth. Russia has also redirected its energy exports to new markets like China and India after facing trade restrictions from European nations.
