A collision has resulted in significant traffic congestion on two major highways.
The M62 eastbound has a lane closed at junction 11 in Birchwood, causing a backlog of vehicles stretching back to junction eight near Burtonwood, according to Google traffic data.
Similarly, the M6 southbound is experiencing extensive delays with queues forming between junction 21A leading to the M62 and junction 22 at Winwick.
National Highways anticipates traffic conditions on the M62 to improve within an hour. The agency projects that the congestion will clear between 09:15 and 09:30 on October 2, 2025, with normal traffic flow expected to resume by 09:45.
On the M6, three lanes are closed due to a vehicle colliding with a bridge between Junctions 44 and 45, causing delays of around 30 minutes between Junctions 43 and 44. Normal conditions are forecasted to return between 8:45 am and 9:00 am.
Further delays of approximately 15 minutes are reported at junctions J23 and J21A leading to the M62 East due to the M62 crash.
National Highways alerts drivers to expect 30-minute delays due to the collision between Junctions 9 and 11, with normal traffic flow expected to resume between 9:45 am and 10:00 am.
Cheshire Police clarified that they were not required to respond to the M62 crash as National Highways is handling the situation.
Delays are also anticipated on the A57 and A580 between the M6 and Greater Manchester as motorists seek alternate routes to avoid the congestion on the M62.
Both the M62 and M6 highways continue to experience heavy traffic as a result of the incidents.
