Flight attendants have a discreet method to signal to each other if there is an attractive individual on board. Amidst the confined space and fast-paced environment of a plane, flight attendants resort to using two code words to convey their romantic interests.
According to an anonymous flight attendant who shared insights with eShores, when a flight attendant refers to someone as ‘Bob’, it signifies the presence of a ‘babe on board’. Additionally, when bidding farewell to passengers with a ‘cheerio’, it could indicate a secret crush.
The crew members often retreat to the galley to inform their colleagues about the location of an appealing passenger. They tend to show extra kindness and may even offer complimentary items, with instances of phone numbers discreetly exchanged on napkins.
Sherry Martin Peters, a seasoned flight attendant and the founder of Atlas and Wild, emphasizes that beyond their professional demeanor, flight attendants lead intriguing yet sometimes less glamorous lives. Peters mentioned to the Mirror that despite the polished facade presented to passengers, there exists a different reality behind the scenes.
She explained that airline jargon becomes a language of its own, where trips are denoted by cities rather than days. The unique lifestyle of flight attendants, including shifting time zones and regular transcontinental journeys, leads to distinctive rituals to maintain a sense of stability even while cruising at high altitudes.
Apart from ‘Bob’ and ‘cheerio’, flight attendants employ various other code words when subtly discussing passengers.
