The company announced the initiative through a recent blog post, stating that users still using older Hub 3 and Hub 4 devices will be eligible for the switch to the more advanced Hub 5 technology. The newer router boasts Wi-Fi 6 technology for faster and more reliable connections.
Eligible customers will be contacted via email in the upcoming weeks and months as the upgrade is gradually rolled out throughout 2026. Virgin Media highlighted the benefits of the Hub 5, emphasizing its Wi-Fi 6 technology and seven internal antennas for improved coverage within homes.
To determine if you qualify for the upgrade, Virgin Media will reach out directly, eliminating the need for customers to take any action until contacted. Users can also check their eligibility by logging into their My Virgin Media account online.
Upgrading to the Hub 5 router can enhance broadband experiences significantly, offering wider Wi-Fi coverage, improved stability, and support for future updates. The router is designed to accommodate faster Gig1 speeds, resulting in quicker downloads and streaming. Gig1 speeds enable users to download a full HD movie in under 40 seconds, surpassing the UK average by over 10 times.
