“WhatsApp Braces for New Year’s Eve Messaging Surge”

Date:

It’s the night before the New Year, and a surge of messages is expected to flood chat platforms as people worldwide prepare to wish their loved ones a happy 2026. WhatsApp has confirmed that December 31 is consistently its busiest day of the year.

“New Year’s is our peak day at WhatsApp, with each year setting new records for messaging and calls among friends and family,” WhatsApp stated. On an average day, the platform handles over 100 billion messages and 2 billion calls, but the New Year’s Eve period always surpasses these figures.

To enhance the celebratory messages, WhatsApp has introduced new features just in time for the festivities. The update includes a 2026 sticker pack, video call effects like fireworks and confetti animations, animated confetti reactions, and animated stickers for Status updates.

Additionally, WhatsApp, owned by Meta, is providing tips for users engaging with the app on New Year’s Eve. Suggestions include creating event invites, using polls to decide on food and activities, sharing live locations for party navigation, and sending video and voice notes to capture and share moments with absent friends.
