Vodafone Introduces New Scam Call Protection Service to Combat Phone Scams
The rise in unwanted phone calls targeting smartphone users has become a prevalent issue, with reports indicating that the average UK consumer faces around eight such calls per month. These calls often aim to extract personal information and credit card details for fraudulent purposes.
In response to this growing concern, Vodafone has unveiled a new feature called Scam Call Protection, designed to help customers fend off suspicious and potentially harmful calls. This innovative service utilizes artificial intelligence (AI) to detect and flag fraudulent, spam, scam, and nuisance calls in real-time.
Operating discreetly in the background, Scam Call Protection analyzes incoming calls and alerts customers with a simple on-screen notification if any call is identified as a potential scam. According to Rob Winterschladen, Consumer Director at VodafoneThree, the prevalence of scam calls has made it increasingly challenging for individuals to recognize and avoid such threats.
Winterschladen further explained that Scam Call Protection on Vodafone Secure Net Mobile offers an additional layer of security by continuously monitoring calls and highlighting known or suspected scam calls. This enhancement aligns with Vodafone’s commitment to providing comprehensive digital security features that empower users to feel safer, informed, and in control of their digital interactions.
The Scam Call Protection feature is integrated into Vodafone’s Secure Net Mobile platform, which already includes advanced parental controls, round-the-clock ID monitoring to prevent identity theft, and real-time protection against viruses and malware. Interested users can experience this service free of charge for an initial three-month trial period, following which it is priced at £2 per month.
