Jay Slater’s close friend has disclosed the chilling last messages he sent before his untimely demise the previous year. Jay, aged 19 and hailing from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, disappeared in Tenerife in June 2024, following his attendance at a music festival with companions Lucy Law, Brad Hargreaves, and Brandon Hodgson.
In a recent documentary, Lucy, who had been friends with Jay for about six years, shared the final communication she had with him after he urgently contacted local emergency services. She was the last person to interact with Jay before the tragic events unfolded.
After an extensive month-long search, Jay’s lifeless body was discovered in a ravine in Tenerife’s Parque Rural de Teno on July 15, 2024. Subsequent to leaving the RG music festival in Playa de las Americas on June 17, he journeyed with two individuals to an Airbnb in the national park area, situated 22 miles away from his group.
It is believed that Jay attempted to return to his friends when an unfortunate incident occurred. Lucy recounted Jay’s final distressing words in a call to Spanish authorities, where she detailed his encounter with unknown individuals who had taken him to the mountains against his will. Despite her advice to return to his friends, Jay expressed reluctance, eventually cutting off the call after mentioning his impending death.
Following this distressing call, an extensive search was launched, culminating in the discovery of Jay’s remains in a remote location near the village of Masca on July 15.
Amid Jay’s mysterious disappearance in the summer of 2024, numerous online speculations emerged, fueling a surge of conspiracy theories and triggering a social media frenzy driven by online sleuths. The case garnered worldwide attention, with an excess of 30 million videos circulating online speculating about Jay’s fate. Channel 4’s forthcoming documentary, “The Disappearance of Jay Slater,” is scheduled for broadcast next weekend.
The documentary will also unveil the final CCTV footage of Jay, shedding light on his last text messages. Surveillance footage captured Jay at Papagayo Nightclub at 11:55 pm, with his subsequent departure at 1:04 am followed by his unsuccessful re-entry at 1:12 am. Security personnel at the venue engaged with Jay before he messaged Lucy at 2:40 am, expressing his difficulty in re-entering the nightclub due to a perceived issue. Jay’s last known location on CCTV was at Tramps Nightclub at 3:07 am before his disappearance.
According to a coroner’s report issued in July, Jay informed his friends about being stranded in the mountains and in need of assistance after embarking on a 14-hour trek back home, following a night of substance use and alcohol consumption.
Additionally, the Channel 4 documentary will feature never-before-heard audio recordings, unreleased messages, and the Slater family’s ongoing quest for answers surrounding Jay’s mysterious demise.
“The Disappearance of Jay Slater” will air on Channel 4 on Sunday, September 28, at 9 pm.
