“UK Residents Eligible for Cold Weather Payments”

Date:

Some individuals in the UK may receive additional funds from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) this month. If the temperature falls to a specific level, you could qualify for Cold Weather Payments, which amount to £25 each time the temperature drops to 0C or below for seven consecutive days. However, only certain groups are eligible for this financial assistance.

The DWP recently issued a notification on a social media platform, indicating that residents of England, Wales, or Northern Ireland may be entitled to Cold Weather Payments. Those eligible will receive automatic payments in December 2025.

According to information on GOV.UK, individuals receiving specific benefits or Support for Mortgage Interest may qualify for Cold Weather Payments, and these payments are automated for eligible recipients. No application is required, but it is necessary to inform Jobcentre Plus if there are changes in circumstances such as having a baby or a child under five moving in. These payments have no impact on other benefits.

Individuals will receive £25 for each seven-day stretch of extremely cold weather between November 1, 2025, and March 31, 2026, if eligible. It is important to note that application is not necessary for Cold Weather Payments, as they are automatically processed for eligible recipients.

However, individuals should notify Jobcentre Plus if they are receiving Income Support, income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA), or income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) to potentially qualify for Cold Weather Payments. Failure to notify may result in not receiving the benefit automatically.

Following each period of severe cold weather, eligible individuals should expect payment within 14 working days, deposited into the same bank or building society account where benefits are received. Residents of Scotland are not eligible for Cold Weather Payments but may receive an annual Winter Heating Payment, regardless of local weather conditions.
