“UK PM Calls Emergency Meeting After Manchester Synagogue Attack”

Date:

Keir Starmer will be departing a European meeting in Denmark prematurely to lead an urgent Cobra meeting following an assault on a synagogue in Manchester.

The Prime Minister expressed shock and dismay over the incident, mentioning that additional police resources are being dispatched to synagogues nationwide.

In a statement, he conveyed his horror at the attack on a synagogue in Crumpsall, particularly distressing as it occurred on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.

He extended his sympathies to the families affected and commended the emergency services and first responders for their swift actions.

The PM curtailed his participation in the European Political Community (EPC) gathering in Copenhagen after a car struck members of the public and a man was stabbed outside a synagogue, resulting in two fatalities according to GMP.

The suspected perpetrator was shot by firearms officers following a reported incident in Middleton Road, Crumpsall, prompting GMP to declare a marauding terror attack.

Before returning to the UK, Mr. Starmer expressed deep shock over the Manchester attack and pledged to chair an emergency Cobra meeting upon arrival in London. He assured the deployment of additional police forces to safeguard synagogues nationwide.

He also confirmed discussions with Mark Gardner of the CST and Andy Burnham, Manchester’s mayor, while thanking the emergency services for their rapid response.

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood condemned the attack, emphasizing her horror and solidarity with the victims and emergency services.

Health Secretary Wes Streeting expressed deep concern over the chilling news from Manchester and offered prayers for the Jewish community during this solemn occasion.

Tory leader Kemi Badenoch denounced the despicable assault on the Manchester synagogue during Yom Kippur, offering support to the affected families and emphasizing the community’s unity.

GMP declared a major incident, with shots fired by police officers, resulting in injuries from both the vehicle and stabbing incidents. The public was urged to avoid the area as police continued to manage the situation.

Mr. Starmer’s visit to Denmark was focused on discussions about Ukraine and migration with European leaders. He highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing illegal migration and supporting Ukraine while pressuring Putin.

The PM recently announced measures to restrict asylum seekers’ rights, aiming to deter small boat crossings by terminating automatic settlement and family reunion options.
