“UK households urged to prepare for harsh winter weather”

Date:

UK households have received guidance on seven essential items to prepare for harsh winter conditions as the nation approaches the Christmas season.

The Met Office advised being #WeatherReady by following tips on readying homes and gardens for severe winter weather. Suggestions include stocking up on water, snacks, medication, warm clothes, baby supplies, and pet food if necessary.

Looking ahead in the 10-day forecast, the Met Office indicated that high pressure over Scandinavia will likely dominate initially, with a potential shift towards higher pressure in the north of the UK later in the week. This could lead to wetter conditions, especially in southern and western regions.

The weather outlook suggests ongoing mild temperatures but increasing unsettled weather, with rain expected, particularly in western and southern areas. Uncertainty remains due to the slow-moving weather patterns driven by a weak jet stream.

Parts of Britain may experience heavy snowfall, with up to 10cm per hour predicted within two weeks. Wet and icy conditions are forecasted to affect large parts of the UK between November 13 and November 17.

The weather map shows heavy rain moving across Scotland, Northern Ireland, and parts of northern England, with significant snowfall possible in the Scottish Highlands. The forecast includes varying conditions across different regions, highlighting potential snow, rain, and milder weather in different areas.

As the week progresses, heavy rain and strong winds are expected to impact various parts of the country, with wintry conditions forecasted in the Highlands and milder weather in southern regions. London is anticipated to experience relatively milder conditions compared to other areas.
