The advisory also mentions possible delays for bus and train services, longer travel times, and challenges for tall vehicles on exposed routes and bridges, with a risk of short-term power outages. The Met Office’s statement on Twitter on October 26 highlighted the current chilly air affecting the UK, with temperatures expected to gradually return to normal levels during the upcoming week and potentially becoming very mild by the following weekend.
A video update confirmed the influx of cold Arctic air on Sunday and Monday, to be replaced by milder Atlantic air from the southwest on Halloween. Forecasted temperatures indicate a rise to the low-to-mid teens in many regions, reaching 15C in the southeast by Friday. Similar peak temperatures are projected for Saturday, with widespread highs of 10-13C on Sunday. Looking ahead, the Met Office predicts changeable conditions with extended periods of rain across the UK post-weekend.
The extended forecast from October 31 to November 9 foresees a changeable weather pattern dominated by low-pressure systems, leading to unsettled weather nationwide. Showers, longer rain spells, and potential heavy rainfall are expected, particularly in western areas. Strong winds and gales may also occur intermittently, with brief intervals of dry and sunny weather in between, possibly causing overnight fog and frost in some areas.
