“UK Braces for Arctic Blast: Snow and Ice Disrupt Travel”

Britons should prepare for plummeting temperatures tonight as snow showers and icy conditions are expected to disrupt travel throughout the UK. The Met Office has cautioned that temperatures could drop to as low as -12C in rural areas of Scotland.

Chief Forecaster Steve Willington emphasized the persistence of a cold Arctic air mass, leading to continued wintry showers and overnight ice formation. He highlighted the potential for travel disruptions due to icy conditions overnight and into Friday morning.

Various snow and ice weather warnings are currently active, covering different regions:

– Grampian: Ice warning until 11am Friday
– Highlands and Eilean Siar: Ice warning until 11am Friday
– Orkney and Shetland: Ice warning until 11am Friday
– North East England: Snow and ice warning until midnight
– SW Scotland, Lothian Borders: Snow and ice warning until midnight
– Yorkshire and Humber: Snow and ice warning until midnight
– East Midlands: Ice warning until 11am tomorrow
– East of England: Ice warning until 11am tomorrow
– South East England: Ice warning until 11am tomorrow
– South West England: Ice warning until 11am tomorrow
– Wales: Snow and ice warning until midnight

Additionally, the UK Health Security Agency has issued an amber cold health alert for North East and West regions, as well as Yorkshire and the Humber. The rest of England is under a yellow cold alert until 8am on November 22.
